Sunshine Coast Emergency Response Plan

emergencyIf you have ever taken a trip on a plane, you have likely had to sit through the part where the flight attendant talks about the safety features of the plane and tells you what to do in the event of an unpleasant incident. If you have flown several times, you have probably taken to completely ignoring these little displays, but we can also bet that the information is stuck in your head quite clearly. After all, each and every one of us wants to be able to survive a disaster of any kind, so having information that can make that happen is very important.

Even when you have both feet planted on terra firma, it’s still a good idea to have an emergency response plan in place. People do it in their homes in case of a fire or some other natural disaster, and it’s also something that every single business should be doing, too. Let’s face it, emergency situations can arise at any time, which includes the hours during which you are at work. Businesses owe it to their workers to have a emergency response plan in place that will help protect them in dangerous situations.

emergency-responseThere is always the possibility that an emergency will never arise, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan for the worst case scenario. An evacuation plan should be in place in case of an emergency, and if it is impossible to go outside, there should be an area of the business that is specified as a place to head for in the event of an emergency. Every person that works in the building should be aware of the emergency response plan, and it should be practiced as many times as is necessary for everyone to have it down pat.

It is also important that certain workers be chosen as team leaders, with different people assigned specific roles on each shift. There is no point in having a team leader on day shift that knows everything about the emergency plans, but not having anyone on the night shift. Workers should be given the details of the plan in writing, and be asked to sign a waiver that makes it clear that they have read and understood all the instructions. This does not mean that you take this for granted, though, as people will sign without reading. That is why test runs are so important.

If you do not have an emergency response plan in place, or are unsure if what you have is adequate, you should talk to a professional business like HRB Consulting. They can help you put together a plan that is easy to follow, yet which will ensure the safety of each and every worker in your building. Your Sunshine Coast business needs this level of protection, so it’s important that you do it right and make sure that everyone is aware of their role when disaster does strike.
