safety-swmsSafe Work Method Statement Buderim

For workers in Buderim, along the Sunshine Coast, or anywhere in Australia, the chances of injury increase when you are on the job. This is particularly true for construction workers who are exposed to dangers on a constant basis. A Safe Work Method Statement or SWMS can provide guidance to help prevent injuries and offer options in case the worst should occur.

What follows are some tips and guidelines that will help create a safer working environment. While it cannot prevent all accidents or injuries from occurring, it will help to minimize the dangers that are present in the workplace.

Follow all Regulations on Sunshine Coast Worksites

While there are a considerable number of regulations in place, they need to be followed not only for the legal protection of your company. But also, to ensure the safety of everyone that works for you on the job. This means posting all regulations, doing frequent checks to ensure that all employees are following the regulations. Saying alert for new regulations or changes that may affect your worksite. Have an emergency response plan readily available.

Being aware of new regulations not only protects you legally, but also protects your employees from the dangers of the job.

Slips and falls are one of the most common accidents that occur on any worksite. The first step should be to clear away any clutter, refuse, or other unwanted materials. From large items to the sawdust collecting on the floors, clearing away the clutter greatly assists in preventing slips from occurring. Plus, it offers other benefits as well which makes it a priority on any worksite.

PPE – Personal Protective Equipment

It should be posted what needs to be worn in every worksite the minimal safety equipment that is needed. While some areas may require more PPE that others, for most construction sites hard hats and steel-toe boots are essential safety equipment. Respirators should be worn in areas where dust is being generated. And eye protection when working with equipment which may generate harmful particles that can get into the eyes.

Plus, any additional equipment that offers proper protection without creating safety issues should be used as well. A Safety Action Plan will cover all this.

A safety action plan is particularly  useful on demolition jobs where the integrity of the materials may be in question. Before work begins in tearing down or renovating an older home, building, or structure, be sure that it has been tested for the presence of asbestos and other harmful materials such as lead and formaldehyde. A risk assessment will be carried out before any work begins

Plus, an integrity check should be made of all structures within the building. Any dangerous areas where materials are not strong enough to hold the weight of individuals needs to be identified and cordoned off for safety.

If you want to create a safer working environment in Buderim, on the Sunshine Coast, or anywhere in Australia, then creating a Safe Work Method Statement or SWMS is the right place to start. When properly created and followed, the SWMS provides the guidelines needed to minimize accidents, provide protection for workers, and create a safer working environment in general.
