One way to ensure workplace health and safety is for the management to be committed to do exactly that.How does a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) indicate that they have this management commitment?By simply saying that &#8220;our business and its management are committed to work health and safety&#8221; is not enough. To prove that your business is committed to work health and safety, this needs to be reflected in your policies, procedures and other written documentation.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few for your to consider:<\/p>\n<p>Work Health and Safety Policy<br \/>\nWork Health and Safety Management Statement<br \/>\nSafety Action Plan<br \/>\nOHS Systems<br \/>\nJob Descriptions<br \/>\nWHS Budget<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-140 alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hrbconsulting.com.au\/workplace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/construction_workers_not_wearing_fall_protection_equipment.jpg\" alt=\"Construction Workers not wearing PPE\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><br \/>\nHere are a few questions to help think about whether management in your business is committed to safety:<\/p>\n<p>Is the safety policy (or other OHS policies) dated?<br \/>\nIs the policy signed by the current person with authority for the company?<br \/>\nIs there a review date on the document?<br \/>\nDoes the policy include an implied commitment by workers?<br \/>\nAre contractors, visitors and the public incorporated into the policy?<br \/>\nDoes the safety policy state how management will ensure safety?<br \/>\nDo you monitor and review your safety performance?<br \/>\nDo your current \/ future plans have safety built in?<br \/>\nDoes everyone in the business know their safety responsibilities?<br \/>\nDo all Job descriptions specify WHS responsibilities?<br \/>\nIs information readily available to workers e.g rehabilitation and return to work procedures.<br \/>\nDoes management participate in emergency evacuation drills?<br \/>\nIs there a budget allocated for WHS?<br \/>\nAre you committed to maintain and repair equipment?<br \/>\nIs all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) ready and available?<br \/>\nAre staff safety reports acted upon immediately?<br \/>\nDo you have regular walk through, inspections and audits?<br \/>\nDo you have policies and procedures reviewed?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-141 alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hrbconsulting.com.au\/workplace\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Road_Train2.jpg\" alt=\"Road Train\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" \/><br \/>\nAt the start of this year, the fines under the new Act have increased significantly. Management commitment is the first step you need to take to ensure Work Health and Safety.
