{"id":735,"date":"2026-08-15T08:17:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T22:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hrbconsulting.com.au\/workplace\/?page_id=735"},"modified":"2026-08-15T08:20:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T22:20:01","slug":"risk-assessments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hrbconsulting.com.au\/workplace\/safe-work-method-statements\/risk-assessments\/","title":{"rendered":"Risk Assessments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk Assessments \u2013 <strong><em>What are they?<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp; <strong><em>and how you can use them?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Small to Medium sized Construction Businesses that I have been working with over the past 20 years, seem to have a focus on \u201cThe SWMS\u201d \u2013 (meaning the Safe Work Method Statement).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This has come about mainly because of \u2018The Worry\u2019- that&nbsp;a State Safety Inspector may drop into your work site and ask to see one \u2013 (in hard copy &amp; signed off by all Team Members)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Legal requirements are that a SWMS is required if your workers are doing High Risk work.&nbsp; <strong>Though this is true<\/strong>&#8211; but few Supervisors or Business Operators stop to think \u2013 \u201cwhat are&nbsp;the High Risks\u201d or \u201cdoesn\u2019t my SWMS cover everything?\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Most \u2018SWMS\u2019 across Australia are pre-written, though this is the most time-efficient way, at best, only about 95% of the content is relevant. Meaning, the remaining 5% is most likely where the \u2018Hidden Risks\u2019 are.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>At HRB Consulting, we believe that a greater understanding of Risk Assessments will produce a more accurate (100%) SWMS.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>SWMS should be a \u2018Living Document\u2019- with the results of your Pre-Start Site Risk Assessment providing the remaining 5% of observations that should be written into the SWMS <strong>on the day! &#8211;<\/strong> discussed at your pre-start toolbox &#8211; then confirmed&nbsp;as to be included into the pre-written SWMS.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>On-Site Risks can change daily.
